Major Charges

Major charges individually, or in combination with minor charges or another major charge, may result in significantly increased insurance rates, and when in a combination with other charges, or past convictions, a possible license suspension for accumulation of too many demerit points as well as significant fines.  Accordingly, a careful, professional, review of the various consequence scenarios as well as the facts and law applicable to a major charge is well deserved.

Minor Charge

Individually, minor charges pose a relatively minor fine and little risk to a potential for significantly increased insurance rates or concern for a possible licence suspension for accumulating of too many demerit points.  Accordingly, in most circumstances, drivers charged with a minor offence will forgo the trouble and effort to fight a minor charge; however, there are some circumstances where a strong defence to a minor charge is prudent and warranted.

Serious Charges

Charges such as Careless Driving, Stunt Driving, Racing, Speeding 50 or More Over the Limit, Driving Under Suspension, among others, are some of the most serious offences within the Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8 and upon a conviction, the consequences can be severe.  The penalties may include significant fines plus victim surcharges, likelihood of higher insurance rates, possible license suspension, and even jail. Accordingly, serious charges deserve a very strong defense.
